Minutes, May 14 2008 meeting
In attendance:
The meeting was opened at approximately 7:05 pm by Scott Busby. Attendees introduced themselves.
In the Treasurer's absence, Scott Busby (President) presented the Treasurer's report.
None were presented, but in conversation we established that the club currently has 20 paid members, 40 members of its Yahoo group, and 106 members of its email list.
The club will support Prince William Soil and Water District's astronomy event on July 26. This will be at Nokesville Park. Scott will advise as he gets more information.
In response to last month's discussion, Scott has increased the lead time on event announcements from our Yahoo group to 3 days ahead of the event.
Joe will do June's program on cleaning optics, with help from Mike.
Bart and Linda stayed this month at Westmoreland State Park. The interpreter there, Steven Price, would still like an astronmy event. No specifics have been set up yet. The proposed location, Horsehead Cliff, will only be available for another year, after which the park plans to build a new structure there.
The members voted to hold the annual picnic at Caledon on August 30. Thanks to Myron for offering to host this again, but we decided Caledon gives us more space to observe after eating. The club will rent the picnic pavillion, which is expected to cost $40.
The picnic will be the occasion of the grand raffle drawing. Scott solicited suggestions for a grand prize in the range of $100, and collected a number of ideas.
Mark brought a rebate payment for the club's new PST. Scott is holding it for the treasurer.
Mark needs member names and addresses from Tim in order to renew our club membership in the Astronomical League.
Jim asked about dark sky locations in Northern Virginia. Discussion produced several ideas for him.
Mike Masters continued showing his favorite accessories. These included
