Minutes, July 9 2008 meeting

The meeting was opened at 7:00 pm by Scott Busby. Attendees introduced themselves.
Treasurer Tim Plunkett presented his report.
None were presented.
Members asked if the club telescopes will be available at the next star party (Saturday July 26 at Caledon). Vernice Gilkey has our 8 inch Dobsonian. Tim Plunkett has our 6 inch Newtonian with GEM. He will bring that. Glenn commented that the club's verbal policy at one time was for a member who has checked out club equipment to bring the equipment to each monthly meeting to see if another member would like to check it out. This is not in any of our written materials.
Scott called for participation at the August 2 Westmoreland State Park observing session.
Tom described the USNO database of stars. It covers stars to 22nd magnitude. To get a copy of the database, members may provide Tom with a 120 Gigabyte disk.
Nokesville Soil & Water Conservation District will have their astronomy event 26 July. Myron will support the event. He would like to have the solar scope and brochures.
The club picnic will be at Caledon's picnic shelter Saturday 30 August at 3:00 pm.

Mark DeVito presented photos and discusses his experiences observing in Alaska. He brought some surplus cold weather clothing to give away.
The next meeting is scheduled for August 13 2008, 7:00 pm, at Headquarters Branch of Central Rappahannock Regional Library.
