Virginia Renaissance Faire fun
Two of us spent today at the Virginia Renaissance Faire, portraying Elizabethan astronomers in costume and talking to fairgoers about astronomy the way Elizabethan England knew it. It was an exciting time, with a heady new cosmology and every astronomer in Europe expecting the telescope to be just around the corner.
Talking with people at the fair was fun, too. About 2,700 people visited the fair today. We didn’t talk with nearly that many, but dozens of people stopped to ask questions, to chat, or to play our field game showing how the New Astronomy solved the problems of geocentrism.
