Having fun with Renn Faire astronomy
I’m enjoying doing some astronomy as our pre-telescope ancestors did it and visiting with lots of people at the Virginia Renaissance Faire. There’s one weekend left of the Faire (June 4-5). Drop by and I’ll show you something of how astronomy became modern, the tools we used, and why the Copernican model (putting the Sun at the center of the solar system) explains what you can see with your own eyes better than the old models that put the Earth at the center of the Cosmos.
The Faire has an entry ticket, but once you’re in the gate my show (and all the educational features) is free. Rappahanock Astronomy Club is in our 3rd year doing astronomy programs for the Faire. I’ve met lots of people looking for star parties, and I hope to meet some of you again at our club events. Drop by and join the scientific revolution. Their Web site is http://varf.org.
